The Dental Assisting National Board sends out an annual dental assistant salary and satisfaction survey to get the opinions of dental assistants across the country on the best and worst parts of their job.
In this article, we’ll be looking at the reasons dental assistants gave in the DANB’s 2018-2019 dental survey as to why they love their careers.

Why Dental Assistants Love Their Job?
Because They Are Proud of Their Profession
The vast majority of respondents to the DANB survey reported that the essential factor that made them love their job is pride in their profession.
As with many who work in the medical and healthcare sector, dental assistants are rightfully proud of the fact that they regularly get to make a real difference in people’s lives. Gaining a patient’s trust and respect while being able to assist with potentially life-changing procedures means dental assisting is a career choice with a deep level of personal satisfaction.
Most Practices Have a Family Atmosphere
Another big factor in dental assistants loving their jobs is the family atmosphere propagated in most dental practices. We completely understand this as we try to propagate that same family atmosphere here at NCC for both our students and our staff.
The fact that they can rely on the rest of their team to support them and the level of comfort that brings in what can be a very stressful job is a key part of what makes dental assisting such a rewarding career for many of the DANB survey respondents.
Dental Assisting Is an Identity
For many people, their job is simply a way to earn enough money to fund the other parts of their life, rather than a part of their identity. However, because of a combination of both of the factors above, many dental assistants find that their work is part of what defines them.
Working in a practice with people who feel like family and being given the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of others mean the most dental assistant can be justifiably proud of the job they do and the services they provide.
Making their job part of their identity has led many dental professionals to enjoy their job and feel a deep sense of pride in their work.
