You will participate in mock trials, legal research, writing briefs, using Westlaw and more to experience first-hand the law in action which will make your paralegal training applicable to the Las Vegas legal system.

Northwest Career College has developed a blended program for Paralegal Training. All paralegal classes, law classes are taught on campus by an attorney. Additionally, although general education courses are offered on-line, instructors are on-campus to review and support your learning experience.
Each student is provided a laptop for easy internet and online class access.

Goal 1: Develop Paralegal Research and Writing Skills.
Enhance your legal research capabilities and document drafting proficiency. You will conduct comprehensive legal research, draft various legal documents, prepare case files, assist with case management, and utilize legal research databases effectively.
Goal 2: Enhance Client and Professional Communication.
Improve your communication with clients and legal professionals. This involves effectively communicating with clients and legal professionals, composing professional emails, memos, and legal correspondence, and assisting with client intake and information gathering.
Goal 3: Problem Solving and Critical Thinking.
Maintain high ethical and professional standards in legal work. You will observe ethical and legal requirements in legal settings, understand the roles and responsibilities within a law firm, and ensure confidentiality and integrity in all legal activities.

NCC maintains liability insurance that offers coverage for any injuries a student may cause to an employee or patient of a clinical site while on externship. Coverage does not cover self-inflicted injuries sustained by the student.

The Associates of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies is a program of study designed to qualify its graduates to pursue a career in law including employment at Nevada law firms; Nevada governmental entities; and professional businesses including real estate, mortgage, banking and insurance to name a few. Paralegal coursework prepares graduates to think critically and act ethically within the local and national norms of professional conduct. In addition to the academic and hands-on training, Paralegal students travel through the valley for a variety of informative and interactive field trips. There's never a dull moment in the Paralegal Studies Program.

In order to obtain a traditional law degree, you have to complete four years of undergraduate study and apply for entrance into a law school, which can be very competitive and will take another three to four years to complete. With a Paralegal Studies Associates degree, you can earn an associate or bachelor's degree and begin working in your career as soon as you finish your degree.
Paralegals can be found working in law firms, corporations, business organizations, banks, insurance companies, health organizations, Post-Secondary instructors, and government facilities.

Nevada does not have any licensure requirements for Paralegals, but employers typically prefer to hire individuals with formal training if they lack prior work experience in the legal field. Paralegals are not usually considered entry-level employees.
The average salary for Paralegals in Nevada is $59,200 per year. Graduates entering the field with formal education but no experience should expect a lower starting salary than average while they gain experience. Graduates then have significant opportunities to increase their earning potential, as many paralegals make more than average.
